My favourite book is Goodnight Mister Tom. We read it last year in school, and then I got a copy for my birthday.
It is set in WWII, and is about a badly treated boy, Willie, who is evacuated to the countryside to live with an old man, Tom Oakley. Tom is kind, yet since his wife and son died, he has kept himself to himself. Yet Willie and Mr. Tom become like father and son, until Willie is called back to London . . .
I like this book because it is a good read, interesting, and well written. It is also educational, because it has a lot of information woven into the story. It also has reality, with people close to Willie and Tom's hearts severly bombed.
But the story is not all saddness, for it has humour in it. I have read this book twice, but I could read it again, for it is just right for Boxing Day sort of days, but it is not so exiting that you stay up all night.
Goodnight Mister Tom is by Michelle Magorian, who has also written Back Home, also about the war, but about a girl who has been evacuated to America, and what she finds when she gets back.
So far, I have not seen more than
Goodnight Mister Tom and Back Home by Michelle Magorgan,
but if I do see one, I will
definately buy it and read it!!!!
